Background

In recent years, the education system has approached digital technologies and AI with a mix of enthusiasm and skepticism.

While these innovations offer opportunities to transform teaching and learning, their use in schools has also raised concerns about screen addiction, data privacy, and the potential to dehumanize the educational process.

Aims

The Digital Horizon project aims to provide the secondary school communities with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to effectively integrate digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching and learning.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Strengthening Digital Competence by training secondary school teachers, students, and parents with a structured training on the responsible and effective use of digital technologies and AI. Training will cover ethical considerations, cyber security, digital well-being, and AI literacy, ensuring participants develop practical skills for safe and informed digital engagement.
  • Providing Ready-to-Use AI and Digital based Tools for education by creating an online repository of validated AI and digital tools for teachers and students integrated with lesson plans and guidelines, enabling educators to integrate AI effectively into their teaching practices.
  • Promoting Best Practices and Changing the Digital Narrative by creating a collection of 10 motivational video case studies from schools that have successfully integrated AI and digital technologies

Target Groups

The project is addressed to:

  • Secondary school teachers that are working with students aged between 14 and 16.
  • Students aged 14 to 16 are the main beneficiaries of digital and AI-based education
  • Parents of pupils aged 14 to 16

Activities and Results

The project will produce the following deliverables:

  • An Online Training Package organized in structured digital education modules for teachers, students, and parents and covering AI ethics, digitalsecurity, assistive technologies, and innovative pedagogy.
  • An Online Database of AI & Digital Tools accessible on the project internet platform for teachers and students.
